May 2015, Memorial Day weekend we had the pleasure of exploring a new destination that I have long wanted to visit. The famed Rattlesnake Saloon and 7 Springs Lodge. I'm not sure if I was more excited about riding my horse up to a bar in a cave or the waterfalls that I knew were the trail end destinations but I do know that the owners and everyone there were a true pleasure! This property sits on 3500 acres that have been in the family for generations and you'll find all kinds of great things such as a general store and a talented carver on site with beautiful pieces you can purchase. If you don't have a camper, make reservations to stay in the custom built cabins built in old silo buildings!
The trail riding was beautiful yet challenging with overlooks and waterfalls that were a great payoff for the places that were deep pulls up or steep trips down. I saw great rocks that looked like giants had scattered them across the hillside and winded through trees and small trails that ended up at clearings that were beautiful.
The trip is a full 6 hours south of our farm and we had the added bonus of time with my son who spent the day riding with us and then watching the band up in the cave that evening! We had a really good time and I recommend that you go at least once! I also recommend that your horses are in shape for the steep hills and that your tack is comfortable for those trips down the ridge! You'll note that we ride Steele Saddles and highly recommend them as the deep seat give you that extra safety you want when you are leaning all the way back in the saddle at times like these.
