New Year's Day 2012: Weather 61, Wranglers Campground at LBL Kentucky, Beautiful skies, what is not to love about starting the year out like that. If you are like us, 2011 was a year we were happy to see in our rear view mirror and to celebrate the beginning of a new year doing what you love with those you love makes it spectacular.

Then put into the equation riding my horse for the first time since summer after she had what was first diagnosed as a tumor withdrawn from her inside front leg when I wasn't sure she'd be alright is amazing.

January is never dependable in Kentucky as it is when mother nature rarely gives you a gift of perfect 60 degree days, but I'll take it when they do come.  We headed to Wrangler for the long weekend and found we were among others who felt the same as it is the first time in almost 3 years that I have had the experience of seeing Wranglers Campground 95% full. Usually it isn't a problem to get a spot in any section you want any time, but the changes in leadership over the past 2 years have made an impact on those riders who want to enjoy themselves with respect from management and have a restrained good time within the boundaries of good neighbor behavior.

Great day for an Army Ranger "song" by one relaxed retired Ranger, Ted Faulkner riding Candy Apple Specialist aka "Stripper" who he is now the proud owner of on New Years Day 2012 at Wrangler's Campground in Kentucky. What a great day for a fantastic ride! See if you can hear what he is singing?!

Those who remember the saddle bag searches, arrest of guitar players, and Officer Friendly who comes in with flashlight held high and an attitude that is disrespectful to professional white collar workers, children, and elderly riders. It appears the Wranglers we know and love has returned for our use. The had scheduled to close the pines New Year weekend, however, opened it up when they saw the need to do so. Rangers came by to ask if we needed anything and remind us politely that keeping hoses attached to faucets would cause busted lines and please disconnect them after use. It was absolutely the best weekend I have ever had at Wranglers Campground. A New Year, New Attitude, and I invite you to try it again if you have had bad luck in the past with management and leadership.

That having been said, the trails were wonderful. Mark rode our Jose's A Hot Tamale by Jose Jose mare coming 4 this year and as I stated, I was able to ride Margarita. We did take it slow at first while she got used to the trails and I felt her ability carefully, then she took off up a hill and was back to her normal self. My thanks to Dr. Stone and his staff at Stone's Equine Center in Evansville who made this possible. We did take an extra mare, Specialist Candy Apple as Ted had fallen in love with her and wanted to ride her as he felt awkward on Hootie which they had bought but is 14.3 in size.  He rode Candy and fell in love with her size, ability, color, and everything so Hootie returned to the farm and is now available.  We love having her back at the farm as she can go anywhere and has a gait that is outstanding PLUS that pedigree which combines well wlith the studs we like to breed to.  Her Hard Texas Cash filly Delilah is a great example of her producing ability. Being 14.3 though she needs a rider who enjoys her size.

Donna rode her gelding Star and we all had a great time. What was not to love! Take the time to visit Wranglers Campground at LBL in Western Kentucky. It's about 70 miles from the farm so stop by the farm or give us a call when you are in the area.  If you need any information on riding in Western Kentucky, our mares, or tips we can help you with simply let us know.
