Genesis TWH in Slaughters welcomes Riikka Kauppi from Finland for her first ride on a Tennessee Walking Horse. The day was hot at 101 degrees and even at 6pm there was no relief but this visitor made the day exceptionally pleasant and a joy with her obvious enthusiasm and pleasure in riding her first horse in 20 years. Rikki was visiting Kentucky in what is called a "couch surfing program". She had a great time. I chose Margarita for her to ride and she absolutely loved it as you can tell by the videos taken. She quickly became comfortable in guiding the horse to her satisfaction and marvelled at the gait and the temperment of the Tennessee Walking Horse.
Riikka was visiting Madisonville Kentucky from Finland with an online program called Couch Surfing. This group of participants agree to visitors staying in their extra space at home while travelling and provides a rating program which keeps the program safe. This is Riikka's first visit to the states and she had wonderful things to say about her vacation thus far and especially her time in Madisonville Kentucky. Her hosts had taken her to Mammoth Cave, line dancing classes, the park, and she was a guest on the afternoon Y106.9fm Drive Home Radio Program ending the day with her trip to Genesis TWH Farm to ride. Kentucky hospitality was ranked highly in her opinion when asked.
Some quick facts I learned about Finland is that their weather is MUCH colder than what she experienced in Kentucky. The language for Finland is Finn which is their own language spoken by about 5.5 million Finns. The country is about half the size of Texas where she started her vacation travels and they are required to learn English in school plus another language of choice so that they can participate in what is a global economy.
I am proud to have been a part of Riikka's visit to Kentucky! It was a great day for the Tennessee Walking Horse breed as well.
